\nThe experience of one older, loyal customer at the hands of RIAS reveals yet again the rapacious behaviour of companies in ramping up pricesIt was understandable why now-retired Leeds householder David Burton, in his late 60s, was attracted to home insurer RIAS. It is the chief rival to Saga, describing itself as a \u201cspecialist in providing great value insurance for the over-50s\u201d. RIAS\u2019s marketing will appeal to many older people. It is \u201cgenerally safer and more experienced\u201d, according to its website, and promises that \u201ca high level of service doesn\u2019t have to mean high prices\u201d.Comforted by these pledges, Burton (not his real name) took out a buildings-only policy with RIAS on his four-bed terraced house in January 2010. The initial premium was a reasonable \u00a3177. \u201cFor five years I did not question the renewal premium quoted.
