\nA $615.9 million contract has been awarded to build a portion of the North-South Corridor (NSC), an expressway that will link Singapore\u2019s central business district (CBD) with the northern towns, revealed the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Wednesday (30 Jan).
\nUnder the deal, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. (Singapore) has been appointed to build a dual three-lane road tunnel spanning 800 metres that\u2019s situated between Sin Ming Avenue and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. The road will also be integrated with the upcoming Teck Ghee MRT station along the Cross Island Line, although the station\u2019s name hasn\u2019t been finalised.

\nApart from building the MRT station box, the company is also responsible for constructing an MRT station box and commuter facilities, such as entrances, escape staircases, pedestrian overhead bridges, sheltered walkways, bus stops and cycling paths in the area.
\n\u201cShanghai Tunnel Engineering is an established contractor which had previously completed many railway infrastructure projects with tunnels in Circle Line, Downtown Line and Tuas West Extension,\u201d said the LTA.
\nAt present, the company is involved in building portions of the Thomson-East Coast Line, including several tunnels, as well as three MRT stations \u2013 Bayshore, Katong Park and Shenton Way.

\nWork on the 800m road tunnel is targeted to start by Q2 2019, while the entire 21.5km NSC is anticipated to be fully completed by 2026.
\nFurthermore, the Straits Times reported that LTA handed out six contracts in December collectively worth $3.14 billion for building six portions of the North-South Corridor, which is touted as Singapore\u2019s first integrated transport corridor.
\nThe expressway, which is mostly underground, will have dedicated bus and cycling lanes.
